Nobody said it would be easy

It is important that you understand that in life if something is worth it will not be easy. And I think that if something is too easy you probably won’t enjoy the achievement. Throughout our lives we are setting goals, objectives to achieve that depending on how ambitious they are will be more or less difficult. But life is already complicated: getting a stable job, paying for a house, and if it is bought even more difficult, establishing social relationship and couple relationships…

Depending on how old you are, you will know more or less what I am talking about, but what is clear is that there are few things easy in life. This means that good moments and bad moments are going to come, and we must be able to manage our emotions and decisions in all of them.

In good times we must enjoy them, but always being aware that we must be prepared for when the moments are not so good. On the other hand, in bad times we must stand firm, not let ourselves be carried away by the feelings that may invade us and keep fighting to move on and turn the situation around.

If we want to achieve our goals, it is the only way to achieve it, keeping calm in good times and not giving up in bad times.

As an entrepreneur, I have lived through these situations and controlling emotions is essential for everything to move forward. And it will always be. Taking a company forward and maintaining a good relationship and coordination with your partners is something complex. A business, like life, has ups and downs, depending on how they are managed, the company will continue to run or end up failing. And if you are several partners, the emotions are not only yours, but of several.

Something similar happens in sports. I have played football all my life, unfortunately this year the pandemic has paralyzed everything. In a football match the emotions and the mood of the players is fundamental and depending on how the game develops they will have ups and downs. A single goal, or even a few attacking plays can dramatically boost a team’s morale and make opponents’ legs shake.

Nobody teaches us to manage these emotions, to be the owner of our head and to be in control of our actions and decisions.

Finally, I want to tell you something that I am experiencing right now. Looking at apartments I found a great investment opportunity, something that was in my life goals and that I think can be very positive in terms of stability and financial income. I decided to make an offer and after a negotiation a good price was closed. As I do not have 100% of the amount, I decide to borrow part from the bank (yes, I know, on many occasions I have talked about avoiding debt but this is good debt, that is, it is money that I do not spend on a whim but rather is invested and generates much more money). The loan procedures are being long, too long. To the point that the seller gave up and wanted to abandon the operation.

At that time I was saturated too, weeks sending documentation, unable to plan a move, and tired of living in uncertainty. For a moment I thought maybe I should quit.

But then, a call with the real estate agent led us not to give up the operation, to convince the seller to give us a week of margin, and finally the money arrived, the agreement was closed and I was able to achieve my goal and my illusion for the draft. It has been complicated, for a lost moment, but nobody said it would be easy.

Es importante que entiendas que en la vida si algo merece la pena no va a ser fácil. Y creo que si algo resulta demasiado fácil probablemente no disfrutes del logro alcanzado. A lo largo de nuestra vida nos vamos fijando metas, objetivos a lograr que dependiendo de lo ambiciosos que sean serán más o menos difícil. Pero ya de por si la vida es complicada: conseguir un trabajo estable, pagar una casa, y si es comprada más difícil todavía, establecer relaciones sociales y de pareja.. 

Dependiendo de la edad que tengas sabrás más o menos de lo que te hablo, pero lo que está claro es que pocas cosas hay fáciles en esta vida. Esto significa que van a llegar momentos buenos y momentos malos, y hay que ser capaz de gestionar nuestras emociones y decisiones en todos ellos.

En los momentos buenos debemos disfrutarlos, pero siempre siendo conscientes de que debemos estar preparados para cuando los momentos no sean tan buenos. Por otro lado, en los momentos malos debemos mantenernos firmes, no dejarnos llevar por los sentimientos que nos puedan invadir y seguir luchando por seguir adelante y dar la vuelta a la situación. 

Si queremos conseguir nuestros objetivos es la única manera de lograrlo, manteniendo la calma en los buenos momentos y no abandonando en los malos momentos.

En mi condición de empresario he vivido estas situaciones y el control de las emociones está siendo fundamental para que todo siga adelante. Y lo seguirá siendo siempre. Sacar una empresa adelante y mantener buena relación y coordinación con tus socios es algo complejo. Un negocio al igual que la vida tiene subidas y bajadas, dependiendo de como se gestionen, la empresa seguirá en marcha o acabará fracasando. Y si sois varios socios, las emociones no son solo tuyas, sino de varios.

Algo similar ocurre en el deporte. He jugado al futbol toda la vida, por desgracia este año la pandemia ha paralizado todo. En un partido de futbol las emociones y el estado anímico de los jugadores es fundamental y dependiendo de como se desarrolla el partido tendrán subidas y bajadas. Un solo gol, o incluso unas jugadas de ataque pueden subir muchísimo la moral de un equipo y hacer temblar las piernas de los contrarios. 

Nadie nos enseña a gestionar estas emociones, a ser dueño de nuestra cabeza y tener el control de nuestras acciones y decisiones.

Por último, quiero contarte algo que estoy viviendo en estos momentos. Mirando pisos encontré una gran oportunidad de inversión, algo que se encontraba en mis objetivos de vida y que creo que puede ser muy positivo en cuanto a estabilidad e ingresos económicos. Decidí realizar una oferta y tras una negociación se cerro un buen precio. Como no dispongo del 100% del importe decido solicitar parte prestada al banco ( si, lo se, en muchas ocasiones he hablado de evitar las deudas pero esto es deuda buena, es decir, es dinero que no gasto en un capricho sino que se invierte y genera mucho más dinero). Las gestiones del préstamo están siendo largas, demasiado largas. Hasta el punto de que el vendedor se daba por vencido y quería abandonar la operación.

En ese momento yo también me encontraba saturado, semanas enviando documentación, sin poder planificar una mudanza, y cansado de vivir en la incertidumbre. Por un momento pensé que quizá debería abandonar. 

Pero entonces una llamada con el agente inmobiliario nos llevó a no renunciar a la operación, a convencer al vendedor de que nos diera una semana de margen, y finalmente el dinero llegó, se cerro el acuerdo y pude conseguir mi meta y mi ilusión por el proyecto. Ha sido complicado, por un momento perdido, pero nadie dijo que sería fácil.
