Something as simple as setting your goals in life is something that not everyone stops to think about and define clearly. On the contrary, it is very normal to let yourself be carried on without stopping to think about where the path you are taking takes you and end up reaching a dead end of unhappiness.

I suggest that you do this exercise of taking a sheet of paper and thinking about your goals in life, and better if you are setting short, medium and long-term goals. Only then will you be clear on where to focus your efforts. You will see of course something so simple. And you may very well realize that some things that you thought was what you really wanted are not what you need in your life.

Many people spend years thinking that they want to have a lot of money, a huge house and 3 or 4 cars, but when you stop to think that achieving this requires many hours of work, taking great risks and not having much free time to enjoy the family and friends you can conclude that this really is not your goal.

And is that setting your goals is the first of the tasks. But once you have your clear goals, which obviously can change if you think you have been confused, the next step is to think about how to achieve them. You can’t define a path if you don’t know where you want to go.

There is no use writing your goals on paper if we are going to keep it in a drawer, at best if it does not end up in the trash, and do not pay any attention to it or apply anything to your life.

For example, I have written down my long-term goals in my life and then every year I make goals or objectives for the year. Those goals of each year are small steps to achieve my long-term goals, so that each year I get closer to achieving them and leading the life I want to lead.

I think it is a good strategy and I invite you to try it. But if you find a better one, I’ll be happy to share it with me so I can apply it. The important thing is that the sooner you start to apply this process that will allow you to know yourself and lead your life in the way that allows you to be happier. Remember. Set your goals. Algo tan sencillo como establecer tus objetivos en la vida es algo que no todos se paran ha pensar en ellos y definirlos claramente. Al contrario, es muy normal dejarse llevar sin parar a pensar a donde te lleva el camino que estas recorriendo y acabar llegando a un callejón sin salida de infelicidad.

Te propongo que hagas ese ejercicio de coger una hoja un papel y pensar sobre tus objetivos en la vida, y mejor si vas marcando objetivos a corto, medio y largo plazo. Solo así vas a tener claro donde enfocar tus esfuerzos. Ya verás como no algo tan sencillo. Y es muy posible que te des cuenta de que algunas cosas que pensabas que era lo que querías realmente no es lo que necesitas en tu vida.

Mucha gente se pasa años pensando que quiere tener mucho dinero, una casa enorme y 3 o 4 coches, pero cuando te paras a pensar que igual alcanzar eso requiere muchísimas horas de trabajo, asumir grandes riesgos y no tener mucho tiempo libre para disfrutar de la familia y amigos puedes llegar a la conclusión de que realmente ese no es tu objetivo.

Y es que fijar tus objetivos es la primera de las tareas. Pero una vez tienes tus objetivos claros, que evidentemente pueden llegar a cambiar si  crees que te has confundido, el siguiente paso es pensar en cómo alcanzarlos. No puedes definir un camino si no sabes donde quieres llegar.

De nada sirve escribir tus objetivos en un papel si luego lo vamos a guardar en un cajón, en el mejor de los casos si es que no acaba en la basura, y no volver a hacerle ningún caso ni aplicar nada en tu vida. 

Yo por ejemplo, tengo escritos mis objetivos en mi vida a largo plazo y luego cada año voy haciendo unos propósitos u objetivos del año. Esos objetivos de cada año son pequeños pasos para ir alcanzando mis objetivos a largo plazo, de manera que cada año me voy acercando más a conseguirlos y llevar la vida que quiero llevar. 

Creo que es una buena estrategia y te invito a probarla. Pero si encuentras una mejor estaré encantado de que la compartas conmigo para poder aplicarla. Lo importante es que cuanto antes empieces a aplicar este proceso que te va a permitir conocerte a ti mismo y llevar tu vida de la forma que te permita ser más feliz. Recuerda. Fija tus objetivos. Alcanza tus objetivos.
