Avoid debt. Get freedom

I find incredible the way of life of today’s society based on permanent debts for absolutely everything. A loan to buy a car, a mortgage to buy a house, credit cards to buy clothes and trips.

Many times I wonder where people get the money to live as they live and the answer is always the same, they live up to their neck in debt. And many may not see a problem in this way of life. I am not saying that it is not a correct way of life, I simply consider that it has great drawbacks.

The first is that living with a large accumulation of debts is going to force you to use most of your salary to pay those debts, and if everything goes well you will be able to pay them but at the least you have an economic problem you will not have money to pay your debts or your minimum expenses.

The second is that having a lot of debt implies being in debt for most of your life, and that implies having to be subjected to a job for your whole life. So you may already like your work because otherwise you will be very unhappy.

Obviously today it is practically impossible to buy a house without accessing a mortgage. But it is one thing to apply for a small mortgage that does not compromise your salary and you can pay it in not too many years, and another thing to go crazy and buy a house that we really cannot afford and live with water around our neck all our lives.

And as I say, on the subject of the house few options are left if we want to buy. The other solution is to rent. Without a doubt a great option if you do not want to get into debt or a euro.

But in other aspects of life like cars, clothes or travel, you should avoid debt as much as possible. Only by getting rid of debt and saving you will get more freedom. Without the fear of not being able to someday assume your expenses and having greater control of your life. No doubt, less debt is more freedom.

Me parece increíble la forma de vida de la sociedad de hoy en día basada en permanentes deudas para absolutamente todo. Un préstamo para comprar un coche, una hipoteca para comprar una casa, tarjetas de crédito para comprar ropa y viajes..

Muchas veces me pregunto de dónde saca el dinero la gente para vivir como vive y la respuesta es siempre la misma, viven hasta el cuello de deudas. Y puede que muchos no vean problema en esta forma de vida. No digo que no sea una forma de vida correcta simplemente considero que tiene grandes inconvenientes.

El primero es que vivir con un gran cúmulo de deudas te va a obligar a usar la mayor parte de tu salario en pagar esas deudas, y si todo va bien podrás pagarlas pero a la mínima que tengas un problema económico no dispondrás de dinero para saldar tus deudas ni para tus gastos mínimos.

El segundo es que tener muchas deudas implica estar endeudado para casi toda tu vida, y eso implica tener que estar sometido a un trabajo para toda tu vida. Así que ya puede gustarte tu trabajo porque sino vas a ser muy infeliz.

Evidentemente a día de hoy es prácticamente imposible comprar una casa sin acceder a una hipoteca. Pero una cosa es solicitar una pequeña hipoteca que no comprometa tu salario y puedas pagarla en no demasiados años, y otra cosa es volverse loco y comprar una casa que realmente no podemos permitirnos y vivir con el agua al cuello toda la vida.

Y como digo, en el tema de la casa pocas opciones nos quedan si queremos comprar. La otra solución es alquilar. Sin duda una gran opción si no quieres endeudarte ni un euro.

Pero en otros aspectos de la vida como coches, ropa o viajes, debes evitar al máximo la deuda. Sólo librándote de deuda y ahorrando conseguirás una mayor libertad. Sin el miedo a no poder asumir algún día tus gastos y teniendo un mayor control de tu vida. Si duda menos deuda es mayor libertad.
